Moving in the heat of summer might mean a lot of things. It might mean paying more for the services as summer is typically the peak season of the year. On top of services being more expensive during this time, most of the moving companies are often sold out. You may, therefore, be stuck and unable to make the move you have been planning for a considerable time.

But if you must move in the summer, there are tips, tricks, and tested ways that can help make your move in the summer quicker and cheaper. We have put seven ideas that will help you make your move an effortless affair.

1. Plan Ahead of Time

Instead of being a last-minute person, it is important that you start making your plans well in advance. How do you do that? Get moving estimates from reputable companies well before time. Four to six months is an excellent time to hold a conversation with full service movers. This way, you avoid receiving regrets or 'sorry, but we are booked through summer'.

2. Move Earlier in the Month

Even though summer is generally busy, the last week of summer might be even more hectic. In order to get a moving company, you are better off picking the earliest dates in the month. This way, you pay less, and you have a few options to choose from. Even the quality of service may be surprisingly better.

3. Do A Background Check on Your Movers

One of the biggest mistakes that customers make is going for the most affordable, which is understandable. However, moving has many aspects. Interrogate the moving company. Who have they worked with? Do they have a website? Also, avoid movers who want to give you a quote over the phone and are unwilling to send a representative to map out your property.

Check out what other people say about them online. Ask them if they have any certification.

4. Don't Forget To Communicate with Your Moving Company

While there are very proactive professional movers who will always come to you first, it is crucial that you keep talking to your moving company. In a professional move, you should know your pre-move coordinator. He will be able to help with the following:

  • Equipment and items that should be packed.
  • Types and number of boxes, containers, e.t.c needed.
  • Arrange how sensitive and fragile items such as clocks, pianos, artwork e.t.e will be handled.
  • Parking and location restrictions.

5. Proper Preparation is Key

Summer is hot and sweaty. This means that packing is not going to be easy. Make sure that you have ample time to sort out everything so that packing is smooth. When you rush parking, you run the risk of breakages and damages that otherwise would be avoided.

6. Put Safety First

One of the most important things, when you are moving, is safety. That is safety for yourself, kids, pets, and other animals in your possession. If it is possible, put the kids in a nearby hotel when movers are actively carrying items back and forth. Keep pets out of the way too. And while you may want to help with moving things, be careful. Remember that professional movers are trained to move items. Make sure you are out of harm's way at all times.

7. Travel After The Move

Making travel arrangement on the same date as the moving date is not a good idea. Why? Because the move might be disrupted and extended by several hours or even a day. It is a good idea to move a day or two after your belongings are safely on the other side. Always remember to allow dust to settle on the other side.
